The main goal of this PhD thesis is to improve the knowledge of the lichens and lichenic fungi in the tepuis of Nangaritka river (locally called mura nunkas), in Ecuador, within a context of habitat degradation and biodiversity loss.
Our starting hypothesis is that being a remote , poorly explored area, many new species for this area and for science will be found. Due to the isolation among tepuys, we also expect to find a high percentage of species unique of each tepuy and a large beta diversity.
